Living in liberal Los Angeles, California this isn't information you share freely. I'm not your average Californian. I actually enjoy shooting handguns. (And I'm a damn good shot too!)

I DO believe...

=> You should have proper training (check)
=> You should treat every gun as if it is loaded (check)
=> You should never point at anything you don't intend to shoot (check)

That being said, over the weekend I went shooting at an indoor target range with my friends Ali Brown and Cindy Brown (no relation). My husband, John (whose family used to own the gun range years back) gave the gals a thorough course on shooting. (I was asked to leave the room because I was making ongoing comments about the guns, but I stayed. After all, I wanted a refresher course. I hadn't been shooting in a couple of months.)



Once we got our lesson, we geared up for the big shoot. You always wear headgear and eye protection. It is quite loud inside, even with the headgear on. We got two lanes. I shot my 9 millimeter Sig Sauer while the other ladies opted for the Smith and Wesson .38 revolver.



They were sharp shooters from the get-go. I was impressed. It took me a long time to hit the target in the groups they were hitting them in. Cindy and Ali saved their targets as a deterrent to would-be intruders.



It's funny how talking about guns in public brings up heated conversations. People who you'd think wouldn't know the first thing about guns actually own them and practice with them. Others are so vehemently opposed you'd think veins would pop out of their foreheads from anger. I find it fascinating.

My position is I would do anything and everything to protect my family. The bad guys have guns. If need be I will meet force with force. My husband says no one wins in a gun fight. If you can avoid ever using one for self defense, you should. Nevertheless, you should have that option if you needed it.
